The Gun Run

Day 1 - Maxixe, Mocambique

We make our way from Johannesburg via Nelspruit to the Mozambique border. After completing border formalities we head for the coast following it northwards to Maxixe where we spend the night. (D)

Stage highlights:
Today is our first day on Mocambique soil.

Stage duration:1 day

Day 2 - Vilanculos

After a relaxing morning in this typical small town, we head to Vilanculos where we explore the markets, and the beautiful beaches. We also prepare for our sailing trip. (B,D)

Time at leisure to get accustomed to the local ways.

Day 3, 4 and 5 - Bazaruto Islands, Mocambique

Early morning we board our traditional Arab Dhow, which takes us out to the spectacular Bazaruto Archipelago, a remote set of islands. We camp on Benguerra Island and spend the days sailing around the islands. We take our own snorkelling and fishing gear, so we can stop often at any of the reefs. There are also sand dunes and walks. On the last day we come off the boats and spend the evening back in Vilanculos. (B,L,D)

Day 6 and 7 - Inhambane / Tofo, Mocambique

We head south to the historic town of Inhambane and set up camp on the popular beach of Tofo. You have the opportunity to scuba dive, snorkel, fish, explore the markets of Inhambane, take a walk over the mountains or just relax on Tofo beach. This is a popular holiday spot and there is plenty to keep you busy. One evening we’ll have a fish braai with fish bought straight from the fishermen on the beach. (B,D)

More watersports and time at leisure to relax or explore the markets.

Day 8 - Xai-Xai, Mocambique

Our destination today is the area most affected by the 2000 floods, but all the damaged areas have been rebuilt. We visit the town of Xai Xai and spend a final day on the beach. (B,D)

Day 9 - Maputo, Mocambique

Leaving the peace and tranquillity of the beaches behind us, we spend our last night in the bustling city of Maputo. Here you get a chance to sample the capital's fantastic nightlife. (B)

Day 10 - Johannesburg, South Africa

After a relaxing morning we make our way back to Johannesburg. (B)
